The "new ranger" is among the smallest pleco species, reaching only about 7 inches. It originates from the Nanay River in Peru. Its body exhibits a range of colors from dark brown to light green, adorned with black or yellow spots that create a speckled or marbled effect. Both its dorsal and pectoral fins taper to a point and feature spotted patterns. In captivity, ranger plecos thrive in aquariums that are richly decorated with hiding spots such as caves, driftwood, and plants. They are generally peaceful and adapt well to community tank environments. As bottom-feeders, their diet mainly includes algae, vegetables, and sinking pellets.
